Jones & Roth staff member Sara McRae made an unusual donation recently to help children in need. Sara cut off all her hair and gave her locks to an organization that creates hairpieces for children.
Sara intentionally let her hair grow for approximately six years. When it reached beyond her waist, she decided to cut it, not just a trim but a complete shaving of her hair!
Sara gave her hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under the age of 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss. "I can't imagine being a kid with no hair and not enough money for a quality wig," Sara commented.
Locks of Love wigs have been given to children in all 50 states as well as Canada.
This is Sara's first time to donate her hair. "Long hair was great and I'll likely grow it out again and donate it of course," she said. "I have to think that a properly fitted real hair hairpiece from Locks of Love must do miracles for the self esteem of a child without hair. They can wash and style it just like real hair, because it is real hair!," Sara added.
Sara's message for all of us: "If you don't have locks to spare, think about giving blood or donating your time at the food bank or the humane society. There's always a cause that could truly use your financial support, talent, or your time. I believe that people shouldn't wait around to experience tragedy or loss to be inspired to do good things. Inspire yourself!"
